Support   Lumina LSC-400   Using the Lumina LSC-400 Controller

This document assumes that your Lumina fMRI-compatible response pads are already installed. If not, see Installing a Lumina System.

The Front Panel

The front panel of the Lumina LSC-400 controller provides a complete status of the system. It has the following lights (starting from the left):

Power: Should always be on anytime the power switch is on.

Link: When this convenient orange light is on, it indicates that the Lumina controller “sees” the response pads in the scanner room. IMPORTANT: If the Link light is off, check that all the cables are connected correctly before proceeding.

Input: This group of lights indicates when a button is pressed on one of the Lumina pads or a trigger is received from the fMRI scanner. The color of the light corresponds directly to the color of the push button on the response pads. Note: the Trigger light might stay on all the time. See Connecting to the fMRI’s Trigger.

Mode: Indicates the serial port’s software mode. Lumina is designed to be compatible with several software packages right out of the box. To change the mode, press the “Mode” push button found on the back panel of the controller.

Speed: Indicates the serial port’s baud rate. You can change it by pressing the “Speed” push button found on the back panel of the controller.

The Back Panel

The following can be found on the Lumina LSC-400 controller (starting from the left):

Power Switch: Turns the system on or off.

9V: This is the DC power adapter input. The connector’s I.D. is 2.5 mm and the O.D. is 5.5 mm, center pin positive.

Trigger Input: Accepts trigger input from the scanner and passes it through to the serial port. This input can optionally be optically isolated. See Connecting to the fMRI’s Trigger for more information.

OTEC: A Cedrus-supplied shielded cable plugs into this connector and goes to the penetration panel. This conncetor is rectangular insead of round on the LSC-400B model.

RS-232: This standard serial port connector links the Lumina controller to your computer.

Accessory Connector: Provides TTL output or input.

Mode: Press this button to change the serial port’s software mode.

Speed: Press this button to change the serial port’s baud rate.
