The information in this
document applies to:
Mac OS 8/9 first time users of
RB-530,
RB-730, RB-830, and
RB-834 response pads models using Mac OS 8 or 9.
Note 1: Click here
for the Mac OS X driver.
Note 2: if using
an earlier response pad model, click here.
Please
follow the installation instructions carefully!
These instructions apply to Mac
OS 8 and Mac OS 9 with USB support.
Step 1 - Connecting the Response Pad
Connecting your response pad is
straightforward. Only the USB cable (included with the pad) needs to be
connected to your computer. No separate power supply is necessary.

-
Insert one side of the USB cable
into the response pad.
-
Insert the other side of the USB
cable into any available USB port on your computer. A few seconds later, the
Mac will display an alert (message) informing you that the driver for this
device is not installed.
There is a green LED (small
light) to the left of the USB connector; it should be turned On after the
response pad is connected.
Step 2 - Downloading the USB Driver
Click on the following link to
begin the download:
Download the USB driver
[23 KB]
The download consists of a
single BinHex file. Usually, your Internet browser will automatically
convert the file from its BinHex form to its original form. If it does not,
there are several free utility programs on the market to convert the file.
One such program is StuffIt Expander found at
StuffIt.com.
Step 3 - Installing the USB Driver
Once the download and conversion from BinHex
format is complete, you should have a Mac extension file named USB Cedrus RB Series Resp. Pad on your
hard disk. Follow these steps:
-
Make sure that your System Folder is
visible.
-
Click on the file
USB Cedrus RB Series Resp. Pad once to select it, and then drag
it into the System Folder (i.e., move it over to the System Folder until the
folder becomes highlighted, and then release the mouse button).
-
Mac OS will display the following alert:
This item needs to be stored in the Extensions folder in
order to be available
to the computer. Put "USB Cedrus RB Series Resp. Pad" into
the Extensions folder?
Click on OK.
-
Restart your computer.
After the Mac has restarted, you
will get another alert from Mac OS if the installation was not
successful. Otherwise, the installation is complete.
Step 4 - One Last Check...
The Cedrus USB driver also requires an additional extension
file named SerialShimLib. This is an Apple-supplied library. To find
out if it is installed on your computer:
The SerialShimLib file should be inside your
Extensions folder. If it's not, visit Apple's
web site for support.
