What's With License Numbers?
Last
Revision: June 24, 1999
Summary
SuperLab Pro has never required a license
number or an activation key to run, but it's time for a change.
Here are the details on how it works and why this became necessary.
The Way it Works
We did our best to keep it simple. When you
install SuperLab Pro:
You will need to enter your name, your
institution's name, and a license number that Cedrus provides you with.
This information needs to be sent to Cedrus so
that you can obtain an activation key. Until the activation key is entered, SuperLab Pro
will work only as a demo.
You can still install SuperLab Pro more than
once. But the activation key will work only if the license number, your name, and the
institution's name are entered exactly the same way.
We have done our best to make the installation
procedure as easy as possible. For example, if your computer is connected to the Internet,
you can email the registration information directly from within SuperLab Pro.
Why License Numbers?
The main reason why Cedrus is now introducing
license numbers and activation keys is blatant piracy. The most famous
one we've had is the user who walked up to the Cedrus representative at our booth at APA
in Toronto, Canada, a few years ago. He started raving about SuperLab. When the
representative pointed out to him that his university in New Zealand did not have a
license, the answer was a casual "Oh, we got our copy from a user in Ireland!".
Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQs)
I hate copy protection. Was it really
necessary?
This is not copy protection. You can still
install SuperLab Pro on more than one computer. But the activation key is tied directly to
your name and that of your institution. This step was necessary to help reduce the
proliferation of unlicensed copies.
Is it OK to install SuperLab Pro both at
work and home?
Yes. The
SuperLab
Pro license clearly states that this is OK as long as no more than 1
person is using
the same license at any one time.
