Summary
Unfortunately, SuperLab Pro for
Windows' implementation of a software voice key has proved
unreliable. It might be OK to use for educational purpose, but users
are advised to avoid using it for research.
Note: a "software voice key" refers
to when a microphone is plugged into your computer's sound card (as
opposed to a specialized voice key hardware device)
This tech note does not affect
SuperLab Pro for Macintosh.
Technical Details
The main problem with the
implementation of the voice key in SuperLab Pro for Windows is that it
does not work reliably across all Windows-based computers. Some of
the symptoms reported are:
-
It doesn't work at all on
some computers
-
It works on some computers
but the timing is not reliable
-
It works fine on some
computers
The symptoms exhibited depend on
many factors including the make and model of the sound card, the drivers
supplied with it, and the version Windows installed.
Cedrus has developed
SV-1, a voice key hardware device to remedy
this issue. We apologize to all our users who experienced any problems
with using the software voice key.
