SuperLab 4.5 is Now Available

December 4, 2010

SuperLab 4.5 adds support for StimTracker and replaces the licensing mechanism found in earlier versions with a new one that was developed in-house. Among its benefits:

  • SuperLab for Mac and SuperLab for Windows are now one product. You can use your license on either platform.
  • Got several licenses? You can now issue "leases" to students or colleagues. When the leases expire, e.g. at the end of the semester, the licenses are automatically returned to you and are ready to be reused.
  • You can now activate a computer temporarily, e.g. when visiting a colleague's lab or using a computer that you expect you won't have access to later on.
  • The license file is no longer hidden. It can be backed up or ghosted.
  • A reformatted hard drive or reinstalled OS will no longer cause problems for your IT staff.

More details can be found on our blog. This release also fixes some bugs. It is a free update to all SuperLab 4 users.

Before You Upgrade

  • You’ll be able to open all previously saved experiments in 4.0 or later, but once an experiment is saved with 4.5, it should be used only with version 4.5.
  • As of SuperLab 4.5, Mac OS 10.3 Panther is no longer supported. For Panther, version 4.0.7b is the last compatible version.
  • Future releases of SuperLab will no longer support Windows 2000. The minimum requirement will become Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (SuperLab 4.5 still supports Service Pack 2).
  • For users of National Instruments I/O devices, on the Mac only: you need to upgrade the NI-DAQ library installation to “NI-DAQmx Base 3.4.0”. Unfortunately, even though SuperLab still supports PowerPC-based Macs, this National Instruments library no longer does. An Intel-based Mac is now required for using a National Instruments device.

Obtaining Version 4.5

Nearly all SuperLab 4.0.x license numbers have been converted to work with the new licensing engine. Let us know if you run into any problems. Note: if you have several SuperLab 4.0.x license numbers, they have been consolidated into a single license number.

Bug Fixes

In addition to a couple of cosmetic fixes, SuperLab 4.5 has also:

- Fixed a bug that was causing improper selection of trial variable levels when the variable was set to “Random With No Replacement”

- Significantly reduced slowness of Self Paced Reading events when using a lot of text

- Fixed a bug that prevented a code from being remembered when it was selected in the Subset of Trials dialog

- [Windows] Fixed a bug that limited the number of movies that could be played to about 30.
