Support   Lumina LSC-400   Using Lumina with Inquisit

Inquisit version 1.32 or later adds support for the RB-420 and RB-620 response pads. The Lumina LP-400 can be used with Inquisit by setting its mode to “Cedrus RB Series”.

Enabling RB Series Emulation

Placing your Lumina system in Cedrus’ RB Series mode is a simple matter of pressing the Mode and Speed push buttons found on the back panel of the LSC-400 controller:

Press the Mode button until the “Cedrus RB Series” indicator lights up.

Press the Speed button until the “9600 baud” indicator lights up.

In Inquisit, you need to tell the program that you are using an RB-620. Please contact Inquisit’s publisher for more information if you need assistance.

How the Buttons Correspond

The RB-620 response pad has six push buttons versus four for the Lumina LP-400. The figure below illustrates how they correspond to each other:

Push button 1 in the illustration corresponds to the leftmost button on the RB-620.

Push button 5 on the RB-620 corresponds to Lumina’s scanner trigger input. This can be used to synchronize the presentation of a trial with the start of a scan.

Troubleshooting

If Inquisit cannot detect a response from your Lumina system, here is a checklist of things to look for:

The most common reason is usually an incorrect COM port setting. Double-check which COM port your Lumina controller is connected to. If you are not sure, try different COM port settings in Inquisit.

If you are sure that the port settings are correct, the second most common problem is when an internal modem is installed. Although it is internal, it might occupy the same port (e.g. COM2) that the Lumina controller is connected to. In this case, try a different COM port or, if no other one is available, please contact the manufacturer of your computer for assistance in re-assigning the modem to another COM port.

If Inquisit is receiving data from the Lumina controller but not the data that you expect, then the connection is established but either the baud rate or the protocol is set incorrectly. Verify the settings on the controller and make sure that the baud rate selected matches your setting in Inquisit.
